This morning began with a flurry of excitement as we ventured out to retrieve our mammal hotels which had been left out overnight. Had we caught any small furry friends?
Once back in the classroom our brave leader carefully checked each and every hotel and lo and behold we had two successful hotels! Yay!
With excitement and trepidation we watched on as in turn each of the traps were emptied and the contents examined. What we had caught was one adult male yellow neck mouse and one adult male long tailed field mouse. The successful pairs carried out a series of tasks including measuring, weighing and naming their guests. The names chosen were Stuart Little and Jimbob.
Once we had time to draw and observe our furry friends we decided it was time to release them back to their homes.
After lunch it was time for our first big group activity. Could we catapult an egg into the air without it smashing on impact? Before we could consider how to do this we needed to earn ourselves counters to purchase egg protecting materials. This involved carrying out a series of group challenges such as untangling ropes, holding as many balls as we could and preventing a nuclear disaster from happening! During these we were able to demonstrate and apply our communication and cooperation skills.
Upon our return to the classroom we traded in our well earned counters for a range of materials with the hope of saving our eggs from becoming scrambled.
As soon as we were satisfied and convinced our eggs, named Mr Scarborough (the Stubbington manager), Shelly, Eggward and Eggbert, were safe and protected we carefully and lovingly transported them to the catapult! 3.....2......1...... lift off................................... SPLAT!!!!
Then it was time for dinner, settling time and bed. However, during our final head count it would appear we have gained a new member of our class...

Stubbington Day 2 (and what a long one it was!
After a rather excitable first night and very early rise from most (5.20am to be exact), we embarked on what was going to be an action packed but long day. Today was to be our late night hide session.
But before that, we began our day learning the survival skill of being able to read a compass. Once we were secure and had practised in the classroom we put our skills to the test in an orienteering session.
After break, we embarked on a mission to save the Stubbington conservation area from developers by proving it is home to many different mammals. To do this we first had to be detectives and search for signs of animal life such as droppings (yuck), tracks and pawprints.
Although we had gathered a lot of evidence we were told sadly this would not be enough and we needed to actually find these living creatures so we began to design mammal hotels comfy enough to lure visitors in overnight. Once made, we found tucked away places to position our hotels and would leave them there until the next day.
After dinner we played a game together and began to settle down for the evening. At 10.30pm, once it was dark and quiet, we got ourselves ready and silently headed off to the wildlife hide. The previous night's class had seen foxes but sadly no badgers. Was tonight going to be our night?
Yes!!! Memories were definitely made tonight as not one but 3 badgers along with 2 foxes decided to venture out and feast on our day's leftover food. A truly magical moment.
With smiles on our by now very sleepy faces we quickly drifted off to sleep and were all settled within 10 minutes of our return.... bliss!

Green Fingers - Newts do some gardening!
Green
Fingers- Newts class do some gardening
Mrs Grub
very kindly offered to help us do some gardening in our outdoor area. We repotted a range of different plants
carefully making sure we didn’t damage them. We filled up the tyres with soil
and delicately placed the plants inside. Next week we are going to plant some
sunflower seeds and observe how fast they grow!
‘We had a
lot of fun getting our hands dirty’
‘We’ll
make sure we water them every day so they don’t die’

Day One at Stubbington
What a great first day! When we arrived we checked out our new home for the week.
After lunch we went down to the beach. We collected live creatures to create our own rock pools.
We left our rock pools to settle and went on a scavenger hunt.
We then had a sandcastle competition.
We checked back on our rock pools to see what had changed before heading back for free time and dinner.

Summer term
Last half term badger
class did a wide range of fun and brain boggling activities. As a class we have
developed dramatically and very much come together as one even more so then we
were before. This is a result of going through a lot together and overcoming
some of the hardest times of our school life we are going to face.
One of these
particularly hard times was the build up to the dreaded SATS. We may have been
dreading them but we were all confident in ourselves that we were going to be
just fine because we had each other, supportive teachers and people we could go
to if we needed advice or help. Our ELSA (Mrs Dally) was such a massive help to
a lot of the year 6 pupils. The last week or two before SATS were really the
last push all we could do was get our head down and focus we just had to except
the fact it was going to be a hard and emotional time but we were going to
power through it.
After hours of maths
lessons and plenty of focused writes the time had finally come the 11th
of May SATS had finally started. In the mornings from Monday until Thursday the
whole class was invited to attend a free morning breakfast club this ran from
8:20-8:50. This was to ensure that no one was coming into class stressed or
feeling like they simply couldn’t do it this was an increasingly big help to
all of us.
After successfully completing
our SATS we had to put them behind us, our papers had been sent away and there
was simply nothing we could do we couldn’t change them or re-do them and there
was no point in stressing over them what was done was done and there was no point in stressing.
After our last test
on Thursday we had a mini party watching movies and having some free time we
couldn’t have our party just yet because there was still ten people completing
the level 6 test in the opposite room .We didn’t worry though because we knew
we were having an awesome party to look forward to the following day.
SATS ARE over! YAAAAAAAAYYYYYY!
On the Friday badger
class had a WHOLE DAY of P.E and party food we had a range of sports like:
Rounders
Football
Tennis
We also had the
choose to do what we wanted on the field
A few weeks after
this me (Scarlett) and Lucy, Tillie, Rianne, Isabelle, Stephanie, Jamila, Jenna
and Josie all went to Petersfield to play a tournament against 11 other schools
we came 4th overall but sadly did not get into the semi-final =( We
were very disappointed but we were only in it for the fun.
The next week we did
a whole three days of art. We focused on the famous painting starry night by
Vincent Van Gough. We created lots of different styles and pictures linked to
the piece. We also did space art by Peter Thorpe. We had a lot of fun creating
all these different styles and we learned a lot.

Year R's Superheroes Topic
Bluebirds and Robins were rudely interrupted by Supergirl looking for Slime Man who had been 'sliming' all through our classrooms. She asked for our help and we were happy to help build traps in our garden area.
We were relieved to hear that our traps worked and Supergirl could take him to the police station! This led us to a Superhero topic where we have been on secret missions helping Supergirl and other superheroes. The children have found out that superheroes live all around us and help in our community every day.
We wrote newspaper reports about when Slime Man came to Moorlands, wrote secret messages and even tried writing our own superhero stories using story plans.
We had to break number codes to read messages and learn number bonds to 10 and 20.
We learnt how to make new colours through mixing primary colours.
We have enjoyed playing in role in the Doctor's Surgery and Fire Station and learning all about people who help us in the community.
We also looked at superheroes in comic strips, learning about features of comic strips, reading the stories and painting Lichtenstein style pop art to make comic style painting.
We enjoyed listening and dancing to the Superman song and trying to keep up with all the actions, even when it got faster!
